Celeno Communications, the leading provider of smart, managed Wi-Fi solutions, today announced a joint reference system with NXP Semiconductors for the development of high-end gateways and smart Wi-Fi extenders. The resulting products will enable service providers and equipment vendors to deliver flawless, self-organized and self-managed multi-gigabit whole home Wi-Fi services, a necessity in the modern home.

The new joint reference system is based upon a distributed access point architecture that augments the home gateway with Wi-Fi extenders connected via a wired or wireless backbone. The reference system gateway and extender components are a combination of NXP’s LS1012A and LS1043A SoC Platforms, and Celeno’s 11ac and 11n Wi-Fi chipsets, enabling a range of configurations from cost-effective 2×2 Wi-Fi extenders up to high-performance 4×4 Wi-Fi gateways and extenders. Combined with Celeno’s ControlAIR™ software for device orchestration, this reference system places a whole-home, self-organized Wi-Fi solution within reach.

Service providers and equipment vendors are looking for powerful solutions to deliver premium home Wi-Fi with high speed and low latency specifications to every corner of the home. Current single access point solutions often cannot provide adequate Wi-Fi coverage or desired network speed in the home as well as handle the growing amount of Wi-Fi devices that choke the Wi-Fi network. Furthermore, this challenge will only increase as demand for new bandwidth hungry applications, such as 4K video streaming and Virtual Reality gaming, grows.

A new paradigm is required. Celeno and NXP are collaborating to mitigate these challenges by bringing a whole-home Wi-Fi solution based on a Cluster of Access Points. The Wi-Fi Access points combined with a smart and self-organizing ControlAIR™ cluster management software are distributed throughout the home to deliver ubiquitous and flawless Wi-Fi connectivity with maximized speeds. By leveraging technologies such as dynamic load balancing, client steering and adaptive channel management, the new approach distributes Wi-Fi signals better, increases the home network capacity to deal more effectively with the multitude of Wi-Fi devices and, as a result, delivers higher Wi-Fi speeds to the devices.

“Smart Wi-Fi management is the key to tackling the challenging home network environment,” said Lior Weiss, VP Marketing and Business Development of Celeno. “We’re excited to work with NXP to deliver a joint reference system that brings self-managed, home-wide Wi-Fi network solutions to market. Incorporated into home gateways and smart extenders, ControlAIR™ allocates the available spectrum smartly between the Wi-Fi extenders, organizes the Wi-Fi devices on the right Wi-Fi access point for optimized Wi-Fi speed to each device and allows successful device roaming in the home with real time tracking of the whereabouts of each device and its special requirements.

“This joint reference system featuring both Celeno and NXP technology for gateways and extenders enables service providers and equipment vendors to deliver the speed and latency needed to support the use-cases of today and of the future,” said Noy Kucuk, VP Product Management of NXP Digital Networking Group. “The creation of truly self-managed, home-wide Wi-Fi cluster architecture will dramatically improve the quality of experience for the average home Wi-Fi.”
