Palringo Aims to Raise $1 Million for Charity
LONDON, June 8, 2016
Palringo, the UK-based app to chat and play games with people from around the world, has raised over $750,000 for charity over the past 3 years through its annual charity campaign.
This year the company is aiming to hit the $1 million milestone with the release of a new Superhero gaming bot for its chat platform, donating 50% of the proceeds between their two charity partners; Action Against Hunger and Islamic Relief Worldwide.
Palringo is a social platform where users can play multiplayer games directly in a group chat of up to 2000 people. The social dynamic of a group chat enhances the gaming experience while the game adds a dimension of fun and engagement to the group chat. The concept has proved popular and these chat-based bot games have now come to represent nearly 50% of the company’s revenue.
The company is hoping to build on the success of last year’s campaign which saw user in-game spending increase by 33% showing the positive effects of giving in a gamified context. Individual spending ranged from $1 to a massive $14,000 and donations per spending user averaged at $50!
The annual campaign initially started as a way to appeal to the app’s Arabic audience during Ramadan but the company soon found that the gamified experience of the campaign encouraged others to get involved and has helped to grow the initiative into a global campaign. This year’s campaign will run from 7th June until the 10th July.
This year’s ‘Heroes Against Hunger’ campaign will raise money to fund malnutrition projects in India with Action Against Hunger and food distribution projects with Islamic Relief, with the release of a superhero game called Hero Squad. The game is based upon players saving people from different threats and disasters and they can purchase different in-game boosters to help them unlock bigger and more dangerous missions with the possibility of saving even more people! The more people saved, the more points they get which will help them beat other players in their group. There will also be limited edition missions, which can only be completed during the charity campaign. 25% of the proceeds from the game will be donated to each charity.
Matt White, Director of Fundraising and Communications at Action Against Hunger UK said: “Action Against Hunger is absolutely thrilled to be partnering with Palringo on their Heroes Against Hunger campaign. This is a really exciting campaign from our partner Palringo. The money raised will go towards saving hundreds of children’s lives worldwide – children who are suffering from the most severe form hunger – and will make a huge difference to our work.”
Tim Rea, CEO of Palringo, said: “Gaming has always been a dominant theme within Palringo communities so we decided to add a charity twist to our bot games as we knew that engagement levels were already high and that it would provide users with an easy and fun way to compete while raising money for charity.
“The combination of group chat and gaming has proved to be a really successful for user engagement and creates a unique community dynamic making it a great way to increase charitable activity by encouraging others to compete and get involved.
“We’ve been blown away by the success of the annual campaign and to hit the $1 million milestone would be absolutely fantastic and a testament to the generosity of our users.”
Palringo is a social platform to chat and play games with people from around the world. Available on iOS and Android, the message-based gaming service allows users to play games within large-scale chat groups.
The company also develops and publishes its own mobile games with a community focus. Palringo now has over 35 million global sign ups and more than 350,000 user created social groups.
Founded in Newcastle, Palringo also has offices in London, Ipswich, Helsinki and Gothenburg.
