Business profile: Pleasance Theatre Trust is a cornerstone of London’s theatre and comedy landscape since 1985, one of the most highly respected theatre venues in London and at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. At the heart of our ethos is the promotion of innovative, experimental, and new performances.

Our London home in Islington boasts three permanent performance spaces operating year-round, complementing our presence at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with 27 temporary venues. Our programming at Pleasance London runs in parallel with Pleasance Edinburgh, offering a curated mix of comedy, theatre, and family shows. The spaces – the Cabaret Main House, The Studio, and Downstairs – feature flexible configurations, bar service, and a welcoming atmosphere for both audiences and performers.

Pleasance Islington is distinguished by two key spaces: the Mainhouse, with a capacity of 199 and cabaret-style seating, and The Studio, a 54-seat space dedicated to Work in Progress (WIP) comedy and available for rehearsals and R&D weeks. The Main House focuses on the best touring theatre and inventive new productions, while The Studio is designed as an affordable platform for emerging comedy talent.

Our programming seasons are thoughtfully crafted. We prioritize new work from emerging and established UK and international theatre makers from January to June, and from October to December, we showcase the best works from the latest Edinburgh Fringe Festival, including our annual Christmas show. Our approach to comedy is more fluid, featuring Work In Progress, Edinburgh Preview Seasons, and year-round events.

Pleasance Theatre Trust, as an unfunded charity, is committed to supporting and nurturing new voices and emerging talent. Our development program, Pleasance Futures, offers mentorship and funding through various initiatives. This commitment extends to artists seeking performance opportunities with us, where we encourage proposals that align with our vision of originality, creativity, and audience engagement.
